Where it all started

Founder & level 2 Lead Angling Coach, Justin Cavalier, has fished since he was 7 years old. "Fishing has played such an important role in my life through good & bad times. I always find peace of mind when I am by water, connecting with nature & wildlife. I escaped the bullies at school & discovered a welcoming Angling community, meeting people from all walks of life but with one shared interest. Although I struggled to engage with subjects at school, I enjoyed learning & researching the art of Angling. The more I put in to it, the more successful I became which is a great life lesson & helped my confidence.

Fishing has created so many fantastic memories with family & friends and has taken me on some wild adventures. With such a focus on mental health in recent times I realised I needed to make more people aware of the benefits that Angling has to offer. Angling is an effective stress reducing therapy for humans & at the same time a way of increasing environmental awareness with an appreciation for our waterways.

In 2019 I leased my first fishing lake and created my own Angling club community. This led to coaching qualifications and the creation of Off The Scale in 2021. I've had lots of jobs over the years but nothing compares to what I do now. Turning a passion in to a business is not something many people get to do so I feel very privileged to be in this position."

What are we up to in 2023?

We have BIG plans for the future and 2023 is already shaping up to be very busy. We're assisting the Angling  Trust with delivery of their Reel Education project and the Canal & Rivers Trust with their events.

New organisations & schools are coming on board and our network of support in terms of coaches & venues is forever increasing. We hope to have more Corporate clients on board as well as working with Greater Manchester Police to engage with local communities and reduce anti-social behaviour. We also plan to approach the NHS and offer our services to those who are struggling with their mental health. Anywhere we can make a difference.

We are  always grateful for donations and equipment so please get in touch if you have any fishing tackle surplus to requirements. We can pass it to people struggling financially, as prizes for competitions or use it for our lessons. Thank you in advance.
